Hilltop Farmhouse

Pine Mountain, Georgia

SURROUNDED BY OLD OAKS AND GEORGIA PINES, native azaleas and heirloom roses, bountiful vegetable gardens, horse paddocks, and acres of green fields, this refined farmhouse was born from a modest, utilitarian cabin. In order to transform a family’s weekend retreat into a full-time residence, Historical Concepts wrapped the home with additions and re-imagined its history. Extending from the footprint of the original home, the expanded and renovated farmhouse spreads out along a grassy hilltop that overlooks a stable, pasture, and pond. Inspired by the natural landscape of the 100 acre site, the design team created a home of livable and gracious scale, with details that speak to the pastoral sophistication of the surrounding grounds.

NESTLED AMONG MATURE TREES and a bucolic landscape, the main house and its outbuildings are the picture of an elegant farm.

THE FRONT DOOR AND ENTRY HALL whisper of the Arcadian classicism found within.

Classical trim ennobles simple wood walls
and reclaimed floors.

FRENCH DOORS open to the dining porch, where a rugged fieldstone fireplace and a primitive farmhouse table create a peaceful setting for farm-to-table meals.

and form a neutral canvas for the display of art and collectibles.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the screened porch is an intimate, outdoor keeping room.

TUCKED AT THE BACK OF THE HOUSE, an original bedroom now welcomes guests.
The adjacent addition creates a cozy sleeping porch.

IN CONTRAST TO THE LIGHT, washed wood finish throughout the rest of the home, the sitting room’s built-ins and trim are crafted of a rich, natural cypress.

THE ARRANGEMENT of landscape and structures is thoughtfully cohesive,
working in harmony to define the site and create a strong sense of place.
